It depends on the type and scale of your event. To be on the safe side, we recommend start planning as soon as you have a set date to make sure you give yourself enough time to find a good venue and a trusted caterer that will have availability on the day.

This is particular to each event, but it usually includes sourcing venue, catering, decor & entertainment, photographer, on-site coordination, budgeting, coordinating travel & accommodation for guests, and many more, depending on requirement.

Firstly, you are going to be spending a lot of of time with your planner. Before anything else, you need to like your planner as a human being first.
Secondly, as much as you might like them, you have to make sure they are trustworthy. Choose an event planner with a strong reputation of meeting deadlines and communicating clearly and promptly. The best way to do this is ask for their references.
